High School Honors Service Dog with Yearbook Photo and It’s Totally Adorable

‘He has saved my life multiple times.’

Service dog Alpha has a very important job: He warns his human, 16-year-old Andrew “A.J.” Schalk, who has type 1 diabetes, of troublesome blood sugar dips and spikes.

“He has saved my life multiple times,” Schalk told the Huffington Post.

And now Schalk’s school, Stafford High in Fredericksburg, VA, has honored Alpha for his good work.

The dog, who comes to school every day with Schalk, got his photo in the school yearbook. (He already had a school ID.)

“I contacted a friend of mine who is in yearbook,” Schalk told the Huffington Post, “and we brought it up to the teachers and they were 100 percent supportive.”

He said having Alpha at school makes it much easier to deal with having diabetes.
