Pet Food Entrepreneur Buys Former Del Monte Plant for $2.6M

The maker of Alive Pet Food, Chasing Our Tails and Venison Joe’s will use the facility as a headquarters.

A former Del Monte plant in Sleepy Eye, MN, will be put into service for a pet food maker.

Stephen Trachtenberg bought the one-time vegetable factory for $2.6 million, the Star-Tribune reports.

Trachtenberg owns several businesses that together produce the brands Alive Pet Food, Chasing Our Tails and Venison Joe’s. The businesses also make products under contract for other pet food brands.

“We’re going to bring all of our packaging, warehouse and distribution to Sleepy Eye and this will become the world headquarters,” Trachtenberg told the Star-Tribune.

Production and distribution plants will continue to operate in the Minnesota communities of Sanborn, St. Charles and Tracy.

Operations in Sleepy Eye are expected to begin in the fall. A few dozen employees will work at the plant.
