They flew out the door, and we still did pretty good profit-wise. Our best-selling Christmas toys were from Zippy Paws.— Diane Marcin, Benny’s Pet Depot, Mechanicsburg, PA

  • Our hottest product was this crazy dog toy from Fab Dog, a big pizza “flyer” kind of toy that looked photographically like a real pizza and even came in a pizza box. We showed them stacked up with one box half open so you could see it. One customer saw them on our counter and apologized for interrupting our lunch LOL! If I had a hundred of these toys it wouldn’t have been enough.— Pattie Boden, Animal Connection, Charlottesville, VA

Services

  • Our Holiday Upgrade sold very well our grooming department. $10 add-on of seasonal shampoo, conditioner, colgone, accessory and picture.— Danielle Wilson, Bath & Biscuits, Granville, OH
  • Our self-service dog wash was one of our best-selling services. The holidays are really what kept it so busy, because no one wants a stinky dog when the relatives are around! Also, we don’t typically sell online, but I wanted to participate in Cyber Monday, so I set up an online sale for our dog wash gift certificates for that day, which turned out to be pretty successful for us, while letting us use the excitement of Cyber Monday to gain some business at the shop.— Jennifer Silverberg, Fetch Pet Supplies, Springfield, MO
  • We offered unlimited add-ons to all who purchased a grooming package. The clients loved that they could try services they never had tried. We are already seeing some of those clients coming back and buying at full price the services they tried. Some of the add-ons were teeth brushing, anal gland expression, blueberry facial and Dremel nail grinding.— Kristina Robertson, Barkley Square Pets, Falls Church, VA
  • For our grooming salon we had a lot of customers concerned with dry and flaky skin. We recommended bath service with oatmeal or coconut shampoo and encouraged them to purchase a leave-in conditioner or salmon oil to add in food.— Rachel Malmfeldt, Pampered Pups Grooming, Joliet, IL
