(PRESS RELEASE) STREETSBORO, OH. — Barker Beds celebrated Arthritis Awareness Week (AAW) from October 7 – 11 by joining forces with Canine Arthritis Management (CAM) and expert veterinary professionals. Together, they aimed to shed light on one of the most common, yet often hidden, health issues affecting dogs: arthritis
AAW was created to help dog owners recognize the signs of arthritis early and take steps to mitigate its effects. Canine arthritis, also known as osteoarthritis, is a progressive joint disease that primarily affects older and larger dogs, although any breed or size can be affected. Arthritis develops gradually and can be challenging to detect, as many dogs are adept at hiding their pain until the condition has become severe. Early detection is key to slowing the disease’s progression and ensuring a higher quality of life for affected dogs.
Throughout the duration of the week, Barker Beds hosted sessions with veterinary experts that highlighted practical steps for pet owners to both prevent and manage arthritis, including:
- Day 1: Dr. Hannah Capon, founder of Canine Arthritis Management (CAM), discussed the signs of canine arthritis and effective management strategies to keep pets comfortable.
- Day 2: Dr. Adam Christman, DVM, MBA, a leading expert in veterinary medicine and a passionate advocate for pet wellness, walked owners through some of his recommended exercises to help dogs manage arthritis pain effectively.
- Day 3: Dr. Jeremy, co-founder of Jope, and Dr. Conway, veterinary nutritionist and co-founder of Vital Vet, emphasized why weight management and good nutrition is crucial for arthritic dogs.
- Day 4: Dr. Deb Torraca, founder of Wizard of Paws and a leader in canine physical rehabilitation, shared her expertise on the benefits of physical therapy and how it can significantly improve a dog’s quality of life.
- Day 5: Dr. Christine Colamonico from Jope wrapped up AAW with an overview of canine arthritis and Q&A to answer top questions from the week.
