(PRESS RELEASE) BOULDER, CO — The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) community expanded in May with the addition of Canidae. The Connecticut based company joined PSC as an Icon member – the highest membership level in the organization. “This is an exciting moment on our journey to create a world of sustainable goodness for pets and our planet,” said Dana Paris, Canidae chief marketing officer.

“Canidae has been known in the pet industry for its sustainable approach, so it was a strong match to have them step into PSC at a leadership level. We are particularly excited about their support of regenerative agricultural practices and look forward to working with this industry leader,” said Anne Klein, director of member services, PSC.

Icon members are leaders whose investment in PSC helps advance their company’s environmental and social performance while also being important contributors to PSC’s work on major systemic issues facing the pet industry. Canidae’s increased engagement will provide PSC with support to help advance its industry-wide priorities, which include sourcing sustainable ingredients, sustainable packaging, and promoting a more diverse, equal and inclusive world.

“Our mission to do the right thing for pets and for our planet is what inspires our commitment to regenerative agriculture, sustainable ingredients and planet-friendly operations. We’re excited to join in PSC’s ambition to create a more sustainable pet industry and partner with them to accelerate our sustainability roadmap,” said Bret Furio, Canidae CEO.

Sustainability at Canidae

Canidae has made significant progress in the past few years, including introducing more sustainable ingredients into their recipes, increasing their investment in regenerative agriculture, launching first-of-its-kind sustainable packaging solutions, and bringing sustainable solutions to their manufacturing and operations. Canidae Sustain™ is their first step to introduce a pet food product that brings an affordable yet sustainable product for all, featuring both premium recipes made with responsibly sourced proteins and the highest PCR% packaging available in pet food. Along with sustainably sourced proteins, Sustain features a plant based formula that leverages up-cycled brewer’s yeast. Through their commitment to sourcing regeneratively farmed ingredients, Canidae supports US farmers who believe, as they do, that the top priority is to leave American soil to future generations in a better state than they found it. They hope to shed light on this important agricultural movement, helping to extend the use of regenerative farming techniques that can be both sustainable and economically viable for farmers.

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
