(PRESS RELEASE) Caru Pet Food is updating its Classics and Daily Dish dog stews to keep up with recent developments in nutrition and ensure all of their recipes are of the highest quality. Caru’s Classics stews for dogs will now have a reduced amount of peas and potatoes, as well as an increased amount of meat, poultry or fish. Moreover, both Daily Dish and Classics stews will also include the amino acid taurine.
Recently, the FDA has expressed concerns that certain dog foods with the main ingredients of peas, lentils and potatoes may lead to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) related illnesses. While Caru’s diets do contain some of the ingredients specified by the FDA, they are not the main ingredients. That said, Caru has decided to slightly revise its dog formulas to include more high quality and traceable meat.
With these new formulas, Caru is also adding taurine to all of its dog stews to help strengthen heart muscles and support healthy vascular function, which is found to be vulnerable in DCM. It has been shown that adding small amounts of this ingredient to dog food can attribute not only to a pet’s heart but also to their overall health, giving dogs the nutritionally complete diet they deserve. Taurine is not considered an essential amino acid for dogs, because it can be synthesized by using two other amino acids, methionine and cysteine, as precursors. Naturally occurring taurine, as well as methionine and cysteine, are found in large amounts in ingredients, such as fresh meat, which is the cornerstone of all Caru complete and balanced diets.
