(PRESS RELEASE) BROOKLYN, NY — Kingdom announced that the first peer-reviewed clinical study on its Superculture Pet Immune ingredient (also referred to as the “Canine Immune Health Postbiotic,” or CIHP), has been published in Animals. The study provides clinical evidence that the ingredient significantly reduces occasional itching in dogs, and delivers significant improvements in skin & coat quality and gut health endpoints.
The double-blinded, placebo-controlled study makes Superculture Pet Immune the only postbiotic clinically validated to reduce occasional itching in dogs, the #1 reason that dogs visit the vet. In just two weeks, Superculture Pet Immune significantly reduced human perception of itching in dogs, and continued to do so throughout the remainder of the 28 day study (27% lower compared to placebo at Day 28). This result was corroborated by a 20% reduction in itching behavior measured by a wearable activity monitor. Compared to other clinically studied biotics for pets, the data suggests the Superculture ingredient outperforms competitive alternatives on itching reduction by over 2.5x.
Beyond itching, the study also demonstrated the postbiotic significantly improved human perception of coat quality after just 14 days and gut microbiome Shannon Diversity (by increasing the abundance of approximately 4 times more beneficial taxa in the gut microbiome compared to placebo after 28 days). Together, these results are particularly notable, demonstrating the ingredient’s ability to address multiple aspects of immune health simultaneously. The researchers commented on plans to further validate these other benefits areas: four additional clinical trials are planned for 2025, including one in felines.
As a shelf-stable postbiotic (derived from the AAFCO listed microbe Pediococcus acidilactici), the ingredient offers manufacturers significant formulation flexibility: it is compatible with and stable across all common companion animal end product formats, including powder toppers, chews, and both dry and wet pet foods.
Superculture Pet Immune was designed from the ground up to improve immune health in pets and is being sold to U.S. pet brands looking to deliver unprecedented efficacy and make differentiated marketing claims.
