(PRESS RELEASE) Since 1979, Earth Animal has been on a path of offering kindness, healing and a dedication toward animals. And for the past 11 years, from November-January, Earth Animal has offered support to the Connecticut Food Bank Backpack Program.
This program provides healthy and nutritious meals for kids on weekends, when free or school meals are not available. There are more than 3,300 kids ages 3-13 in 27 school districts who qualify for the Connecticut Food Bank distributed backpacks which are passed out every Friday.
In 2018, Earth Animal branched out and invited local businesses to participate and combined efforts totaled $2,850 or the equivalent of 570 bags of weekend food. Earth Animal presented a check to the Connecticut Food Bank CEO Bernie Beaudreau at the Earth Animal retail store in Westport, CT on Jan. 17.
“I was devastated to hear the staggering numbers of children who are without food in our home state, states Susan Goldstein, co-founder of Earth Animal. This is happening in our own backyard and it’s up to all of us in our community to show our love and concern for these children.”
Special thanks to local contributors; Trinity Episcopal Church in Trumbull, Caitlin Salon & Studio in Fairfield, Tusk in Westport, K & L Stand in Fairfield, Choice Pet in Fairfield, Choice Pet in Stamford, The Natural Pet Outlet in Bridgeport, Pet Pantry in Fairfield, William Pitt in Westport, Ash Creek Animal Hospital in Bridgeport, Andrew Ilowitz Chiropractor in Fairfield, Wolfgang & Company in Fairfield, the Chamber of Commerce in Westport/Weston and Calise’s of Westport.
Earth Animal continues to cause awareness and raising money throughout the year. Goldstein adds, “Here’s the justification of why we think it’s important for a health food store for animals helping children: DOGS LOVE KIDS TOO!”
