(Press Release) Lucy Pet Foundation chartered a plane to airlift 64 dogs and cats from overcrowded Houston shelters to Oakland, CA, on Sept. 17.
“The shelters in Houston are severely overcrowded because of the influx of animals due to hurricane Harvey,” said Joey Herrick, founder of the Lucy Pet Foundation. “We are going to help by moving animals that were in the shelter prior to the storm and relocate them to Oakland making more room for animals that were rescued after the hurricane.”
The plane took off from Houston’s Hobby Airport. Actress Renee Zellweger surprised everyone by showing up at Houston Hobby and helping load animals onto the Lucy Pet chartered plane.
Dr. Karen “Doc” Haligan, the Lucy Pet Foundation veterinarian, was on the ground in Houston to assist in the loading of the animals. She was also aboard the plane as it flew to Oakland.

“There are hundreds of homeless animals that need to be moved to areas of the country that need adoptable animals otherwise those animals become statistics in the shelter,” said Halligan.
Lucy Pet Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide spay and neuter services and raise awareness of the pet overpopulation crisis.
