(PRESS RELEASE) Jackson Galaxy’s Cat Camp, a weekend adventure for cat lovers of all stripes now in its fourth year, will return to NYC on Saturday June 6, and Sunday June 7, 2020, once again taking place at the Metropolitan Pavilion. Early-bird tickets went on sale Dec. 12. The event, which drew over 5,000 attendees last year, is a celebration of love for all things feline and aims to spread the message that truly anyone can be an animal advocate.

Since its first event in 2017, Cat Camp has become nationally known as THE pre-eminent event where guests can revel in all kinds of cat-related activities, from shopping the cutest cat swag (such as the Toasty Cat bed, which debuted last year specifically for the event and immediately sold out), to meeting and mingling with stars of the cat world, and learning from cat experts and advocates about how to take small, achievable steps to help cats live more comfortably, whether as indoor pets or community cats.

Renowned cat behavior expert and Animal Planet star of “My Cat From Hell,” Jackson Galaxy, returns as “Head Camp Counselor” alongside Cat Camp co-founder, Christina Ha (co-owner of NYC’s first renowned cat cafe, Meow Parlour, and president of its non-profit rescue group, Meow Parlour Cats) to present the event. Hannah Shaw, a best-selling author, kitten rescue educator and social media star (aka @kittenxlady), will also return for her fourth year as a camp counselor.

The event takes on a summer camp theme: guests can participate in a variety of fun, informative workshops, interactive panels, and engaging events during Cat Camp, earning badges they can pin on their Cat Camp bandanas as they learn.

There will be:

  • Family-friendly activities and workshops on topics such as how to play with cats (which instantly sold out last year)
  • DIY cat toy-making sessions
  • An adoptable cat area featuring kittens and cats from nearly a dozen local adoption organizations
  • An on-site cat cafe hosted by Meow Parlour, where they will host yoga sessions with kittens and kitten bingo
  • One-on-one meet and greets, photo ops, and book signings with stars of the cat world such as Jackson Galaxy and Hannah Shaw (aka Kitten Lady)
  • A vast array of cat merchandise, much of it handmade by independent crafters, for guests to peruse and purchase
  • Workshops and panels with community cat experts and nationally recognized rescue professionals who will act as the “camp counselors,” and child friendly activities such as a kitten condo-making workshop.

Over the past three years, as a result of the event, dozens of participating animal rescue groups were able to place over 100 cats into loving “furever” homes, and over 5,000 attendees have learned from experts and become animal advocates themselves.

Thanks to the event’s ongoing generous partnership with the Petco Foundation, Petco’s nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare, general admission tickets include access to the weekend’s talks and presentations, with the goal to further Petco Foundation and Cat Camp’s shared mission to improve animal lifesaving through education. Every attendee will have access to information and the ability to learn the skills to become better cat owners, lovers, and advocates.

Early-bird tickets will be available for $20 starting at 9 a.m. Thursday Dec. 12 at http://www.catcampnyc.com/tickets/. Minors under 18 may attend for free when accompanied by an adult with a GA ticket. Early-bird sales end at midnight on Jan. 1. Starting Jan. 2, adult tickets will be $25.

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
