A listing on bizbuysell.com has caused speculation among pet retailers that Lystn, LLC, makers of Answers Pet Food, is for sale. Robin Wertz, vice president and chief administrative officer for the company, responded to the rumor on Friday.

“We are not for sale. We are actually looking for growth investment money, and that’s why we were listed on that site,” she said, adding that the listing has since been removed to avoid further confusion.

Wertz also shared that the company recently signed with Phillips Pet Food & Supplies for national distribution.

“I’m very excited about that. We did a rebrand. It’s fantastic,” she said, pointing to the new packaging as a driver of the Phillips partnership. “What we did with the rebrand and the packaging, the quality is so amazing. We don’t get freezer burn. We don’t have any kind of moisture loss. It’s holding up so well that Phillips, when they saw we had rebranded, because we were with them years and years and years ago, was excited to repartner.”

Wertz pointed to the company’s current momentum and reiterated, “We’re just keeping our feelers out there, looking for investment money. The plant is not for sale. We’re not going out of business. If anything, we’re better than ever.”

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
