Maev, which bills itself as “the first human-quality raw dog food brand,” has closed on a $9 million funding round.

The round was led by Springdale Ventures. Previous rounds were led by VMG Partners, Bolt and Willow Growth.

Maev “plans to expand and further establish its local Austin team – in creative, branding, supply chain and engineering – and renew its offerings in order to build on existing product lines and open up new formats and uses,” according to a press release.

“From day one we knew that Maev could be the brand that was turning an age-old category on its head and shifting the conversation from ‘what was’ to ‘what could be done better’ in terms of quality, form and function,” said Katie Spies, CEO and founder of Maev. “Our investment partners have joined us in this commitment, and we couldn’t be more excited about the coming developments.”

Carle Stenmark, partner at VMG Partners, said, “We were immediately drawn to Maev from their incredibly dedicated and vocal customer base, as well as our collaboration with Katie, who we believe is a world-class founder who sets the standard for the next generation of pet care.”

Maev company launched in 2020. Its product lines include raw meals, vitamin supplement bars and bone broths.

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
