(PRESS RELEASE) Michelson Found Animals Foundation, a nonprofit social enterprise committed to saving pets and enriching lives, held its 8th annual gala on Oct. 5. Hosted by founder Gary Michelson and Alya Michelson, it was a celebration of the efforts of animal advocates from the entertainment industry to local officials to an animal welfare organization, all committed to improving and enriching the lives of animals.

“Alya and I are so inspired by the influential work of this year’s honorees, who have shown tireless dedication to improving the lives of animals and have each made a huge impact in their own way,” said Gary Michelson, founder of Michelson Found Animals Foundation. “From passing legislation to getting shelter pets adopted, we appreciate these honorees for their diligence and dedication to advocating for animals.”

The 2019 honorees were:

  • Valari Staab, president of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations (a division of NBCUniversal that includes 42 NBC/Telemundo stations). Staab’s leadership around Clear The Shelters has resulted in NBC and Telemundo owned stations’ nationwide pet adoption campaign helping more than 400,000 pets find new homes in five years. In addition, the stations teamed up with Michelson Found Animals to host the inaugural Fund The Shelters Challenge in 2019 which raised $1.564M for animal shelters. Mario Lopez, a two-time Emmy Award-winning television personality and New York Times bestselling author, and one of the hosts of NBC’s Access Hollywood and Access Daily, presented the award to Staab.
  • Simone Friedman, the head of philanthropy and impact investment for EJF Philanthropies, served as the impact producer for the 2018 documentary Eating Animals, winner of 2019 Environmental Media Association Documentary Award, highlighting the farmers, whistleblowers, and innovators who are advocating against factory farming.
  • Christi Metropole, founder and executive director of Stray Cat Alliance, has empowered hundreds of volunteers and thousands of community members to provide life-saving care and advocacy for more than 150,000 cats. SCA’s return to field programs have dramatically reduced cat intake and euthanasia at Long Beach and Orange County shelters and the group raised a record setting $266K as the first prize winner in the Fund the Shelters Challenge.
  • California State Senate Majority Leader Robert Hertzberg, who authored SB 258, led the effort to create a $5 million grant program in the 2019-2020 budget to encourage shelters to offer care for pets of Californians experiencing homelessness.
  • Speaker of the California State Assembly Anthony Rendon is a longtime champion of animals, the environment, and our communities. As speaker, he focuses on support for his colleagues’ legislation, including animal welfare bills such as this year’s AB 44 (Friedman) to ban the sale of fur in California. His personal legislative history extends to his first year as Assembly member when he authored the bill AB 711 to ban toxic lead hunting ammunition, a major source of lead poisoning in wildlife and humans.

“We’re honored to host Michelson Found Animals’ 8th annual gala and humbled to work beside these amazing animal welfare leaders to make a positive change in the lives of all animals,” said Alya Michelson, singer-songwriter and philanthropist. “I was incredibly moved by Eating Animals, and it was a privilege to present the award to Simone Friedman to commend the strides the film made in raising awareness around the consequences of factory farming.”

“I am honored to be recognized with this award, and very proud of our NBC and Telemundo owned stations for making Clear The Shelters a national campaign that has a big impact in our communities and on the lives of so many deserving animals,” said Staab. “With the support of our shelter partners, sponsors, Michelson Found Animals and many others, our campaign has helped to inspire change and save countless animal lives across the country.”

“I am so appreciative that Michelson Found Animals is highlighting the destructive role that industrialized animal agriculture plays in the well-being of the planet and all who inhabit it,” said Friedman.

SuperGravy Releases Limited Holiday Edition to Benefit Retailer Battling Cancer

Nicole’s Blush topper profits to go to Nicole Kane of Dog Day’s Delight Grooming, Retail and Rescue in Florida.

(PRESS RELEASE) Sometimes, rescuers need rescuing themselves. The true animal rescue angels among us are inspiring. These heroes personally save hundreds of dogs, cats, and other animals every day, and they usually do so at great personal expense, with no expectation of gain or glory. Nicole Kane is one of these angels, and her family owns Dog Days Delight, a grooming, doggy day care and retail store in Cape Coral, FL.

Cape Coral also happens to be the headquarters of Clear Conscience Pet, the award-winning pet nutrition company best known for its SuperGravy holistic instant pet food topper mixes.

Kane and her mom, Nancy, have personally rescued numerous dogs in the past several years. Some are placed in new homes, but the Kanes have made it their mission to save “last chance” dogs, including advanced geriatrics and those who are blind, deaf, or otherwise physically challenged. Some of these dogs have had their elderly human guardians pass away or moved into assisted living facilities. Nicole and Nancy adopt these dogs in distress and bring them into their home as family members, knowing that they will be taking care of them for the rest of their lives.

When the founders of Clear Conscience Pet learned that Nicole, who is only 41, was recently diagnosed with both breast cancer and thyroid cancer, they wanted to help their friend and fellow pet care professional. “Dog Days Delight was the first local store to support us after we moved to Cape Coral. They stocked our full line, helped us with storage space, and even allowed their store to be used as a video shoot location,” said CCP founder Anthony Bennie. “We were shocked and very concerned to hear of Nicole’s diagnosis, and we decided to use SuperGravy to raise money for her at this difficult time.”

Anthony and co-founder Amanda Malone Bennie decided to mix two SuperGravy formulas to make a limited-edition holiday season product, and the result is “Nicole’s Blush,” a blend of Arfredo white and Barkinara red. “Red and white are festive holiday colors, and pink is the color most associated with breast cancer, so this was the perfect blend. All of the dogs who have tried Nicole’s Blush have absolutely loved it,” said Amanda Bennie.

Nicole’s Blush is made with whole superfoods including Greek yogurt powder, dried chicken liver, dried veggies, kelp, and chia seed. The blush blend also features the new Clear Conscience Pet proprietary TRI-GESTIVE three-way digestive health blend of Probiotics, Prebiotics, and Digestive Enzymes along with added Taurine for carnivore heart health. This special fundraising edition SuperGravy Blush is packaged in a 21 serving size with a promotional suggested retail price of $10. All profits will go directly to Nicole. Supplies are limited, but retailers interested in selling the special edition will be offered a discount and should contact Clear Conscience Pet to arrange purchase.

Hi-Def Printing of Cape Coral also contributed to this effort by generously donating the package labels, and even the graphic artist donated his time.

“As far as we know, this is the first time a pet nutrition brand has designed a limited-edition product to raise money for an individual pet care professional in need, rather than a charity,” said Anthony. “But we decided that just as rescue angels focus on helping those who need immediate help, it makes perfect sense for us to focus this effort on helping Nicole right now when she needs it most. If this can make even a small difference as she battles her illness and fights to keep her business healthy, it is worth all of the effort.”

The product is available now at SuperGravy.com, and there will be an official launch event for Nicole’s Blush on Small Business Saturday at Dog Days Delight.

Sustainably Yours Offers Demo Sets for Retailers

Hands-on experience shows off the unique litter formula to consumers.

(PRESS RELEASE) Retailers looking to add a new litter to their stores or those who are already fans of Sustainably Yours can now present the product in a new, experiential way. Sustainably Yours Natural Cat Litter recently debuted demo kits designed specifically to show off the unique ingredients in the litter, as well as their unmatched clumpability, the light color and the lack of dust.

The demo kit comes stocked with a handmade wood base, two containers for litter, one water bottle, a scoop and a display explaining how to perform the clumping test. Each kit can be effortlessly displayed on any retail shelf or counter, letting interested shoppers utilize the kit themselves or making it easy for retailers to demonstrate it.

“Many consumers appreciate the opportunity to experience new products before they make that final purchasing decision,” comments Luana Francischini, marketing director at Petfive, the parent company of Sustainably Yours. “With these demo kits, they’ll be able to see with their own eyes how well our litter works and feel with their own hands the texture so they’ll know it’s the best choice for their beloved cat.”

Sustainably Yours Natural Cat Litter features only two natural biodegradable ingredients — corn and cassava — making the product 100 percent sustainable and renewable. The efficient formula clumps more firmly than other natural litters, and the light color allows pet parents to detect changes in their cat’s urine immediately. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds from each bag goes directly to the Rainforest Trust, an organization that acquires acreage in threatened rainforests worldwide to protect and sustain natural habitats.

For retailers interested in displaying a demo kit in their store, please contact info@sylitter.com.
