(PRESS RELEASE) AUSTIN, TX — Did you know that every year, more than 200,000 cats and dogs will be faced with a choking situation? That’s why Bow Wow Labs is trying to raise awareness of National Pet Choking Prevention Day on Saturday, June 22.
Many pet parents are not aware of many common household dangers that can cause an animal to choke, which includes everything from balls and sticks to hair ties and rubber bands. Bow Wow labs has partnered with renowned veterinarian, Dr. Judy Morgan, to help spread awareness of this common situation. Dr. Morgan spent more than ten years as an emergency veterinarian and because of that experience, is hoping to educate and enlighten pet parents on how to prevent choking.
So how do you prevent pets from choking?
• Buy the right size: Don’t buy toys and treats that are smaller than your pet’s windpipe or large enough to block its airway. The diameter of a ball should be wider than the width of your pet’s jaw.
• Know your pet habits: if your pet swallows things whole, keep that in mind.
• Never leave your pet unattended with treats and chews.
• Take care with multi-species households: babies, cats, dogs, and critters come in all sizes and put things in their mouths.
