(PRESS RELEASE) GUELPH, CANADA – A new study presented at the Global Summit on Animal Nutrition shows that pets fed on Veramaris Natural Marine Algal Oil receive the same levels of EPA & DHA Omega-3 fatty acids as those fed with fish oil.

The study by Dr John E. Bauer, a Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist was presented virtually at the four-day summit held at the University of Guelph, Canada. It compared the use of Veramaris Pets Algal Oil in feed for both dogs and cats to published studies where marine fish oil was used.

Commenting on the results, Dr Bauer said: “The algae oil provides a consistent, safe and sustainable source of dietary omega-3 nutrients compared to the variability typically seen with marine fisheries-derived fish oil sources of long-chain omega-3 fatty acid.”

Speaking about the Summit, Jeff Alix, Veramaris’ Global Head of Business Development for Companion Animals said: “This is an important study for Veramaris and we are pleased that it is being presented at such a prestigious summit. These results will give pet food producers further evidence that Veramaris Algal Oil is a sustainable and effective alternative to fish oil. It will also give consumers confidence that they are selecting the right source of Omega-3 for their pet.”

Omega-3 is a common ingredient in pet food due to the health benefits. Historically, fish oil has been the only option for feed producers, but marine resources are finite and under pressure.

Veramaris Pets Algal Oil is the sustainable alternative and contains at least 500mg of EPA & DHA per gram which is twice the level typically found in fish oils.

EPA & DHA Omega-3 long chain fatty acids have been extensively studied and found to be essential for both dogs and cats. Specifically, to skin health and coat condition, the immune response, healthy joints, and kidney and heart well-being.

In addition, they also help vision and brain health, puppy development, trainability, and cognitive function. In this latest research four separate trials were performed, two in dogs and two in cats.
