WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Pet Food Institute (PFI), whose members produce the vast majority of dog and cat food and treats in the United States, announced that it has been awarded $725,000 in funding through the America First Trade Promotion Program (AFTPP), a new initiative designed to expand export opportunities for U.S. agricultural products and strengthen global trade relationships.

The AFTPP was introduced as part of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Brooke Rollins’ and USDA Under Secretary Luke Lindberg’s three-point trade plan, helping U.S. exporters capitalize on emerging market opportunities and supporting organizations working to grow international demand for American products. The program complements USDA’s existing export promotion efforts, including the Market Access Program (MAP) and the Regional Agricultural Promotion Program (RAPP)—both of which PFI participates in as an active cooperator.

PFI will use the funding to advance market development activities that promote U.S. pet food exports, helping to diversify and expand access to key global markets.

“PFI is proud to continue to expand its global engagement and build new opportunities for U.S. pet food through this AFTPP funding,” said Nat Davies, vice president of business operations and programs at PFI. “This investment will allow us to showcase the innovation and quality of U.S. pet food in key markets and continue driving growth that benefits pets, pet owners, and the entire U.S. agricultural supply chain.”
