(PRESS RELEASE) BOULDER, CO — The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) announced the addition of Adam Kay (Tyler Packaging) and Joanne Dwyer (PetSmart) to its Board of Directors as well as electing Stephie Volo (Earth Animal) as 2025 Board Chair. Their leadership will strengthen PSC’s mission to advance profitable sustainable business practices across the pet industry.

Kay, a European Packaging Supplier board member, will bring an international perspective to PSC’s efforts, while Dwyer’s role as Board Secretary and retail representative reinforces the Coalition’s commitment to driving sustainability at every level of the industry.

“Our Board plays a critical role in guiding PSC’s strategy and impact,” said Jim Lamancusa, CEO and Executive Director of PSC,. “Adam and Joanne bring the expertise, vision, and commitment we need to expand our global reach and deepen our industry influence. We’re excited to welcome them to the team. And having Stephie as our Board Chair is a dream come true. Her vision, mentorship, and expertise are huge assets to help me guide the organization as well as optimize and engage our board.”

As Sales and Technical Director at Tyler Packaging, Kay has led major advancements in sustainable packaging solutions for the pet industry. His expertise will help drive PSC’s strategic initiatives, particularly in sustainable materials and global market engagement.

“Driving sustainability within the packaging of petfood is crucial, it’s the first contact consumers have with brands, the global impact of packaging is estimated to be at 300,000,000 Ibs annually,” said Kay, “We must drive awareness to brands and consumers that alternatives exist, to avoid this continuing to go to landfill.”

Dwyer, Vice President of Corporate Communications & Corporate Social Responsibility at PetSmart, has been a driving force in integrating sustainability into retail operations. In her role as Board Secretary, she will provide strategic oversight and help align PSC’s work with the evolving priorities of major retailers.

“I look forward to serving on the board of PSC to increase collaboration across the pet industry —because real change happens when we all work together,” said Dwyer. “We know pet parents are nature-loving and want to reduce their pet’s impact on the planet. I’m excited to work alongside our retail peers to make it easier for them to take small actions that can advance sustainability and drive change. Whether that’s expanding consumer access to more eco-friendly products and packaging, or facilitating circular models, we need to bridge the gap between niche offerings and mainstream availability.”

As PSC continues to expand its leadership and impact, the appointment of Kay and Dwyer represents a crucial step toward accelerating the Coalition’s mission.

“Sustainability isn’t just a goal—it’s a responsibility. As Board Chair, I’m excited to support PSC’s mission by ensuring we stay focused on impact, accountability, and collaboration. With Adam and Joanne bringing fresh perspectives and deep expertise, we’re in a stronger position than ever to help the pet industry turn bold ideas into real progress,” said Volo.

PSC’s Co-Founders and leadership see these appointments as a major step toward expanding its influence and achieving its ambitious 10-year target—engaging over 50% of the global pet market adopting more sustainable practices by 2035.

“What started as a small coalition of like-minded companies has grown into a powerful force for change. The addition of Adam and Joanne reflects how far PSC has come—and where we’re headed. Their leadership will help us push the boundaries of what’s possible, ensuring sustainability isn’t just an initiative, but the foundation of the pet industry’s future,” said Chris Bentley, Co-Founder of PSC.

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
