PetAirapy Celebrates Ten Years of Bringing Clean, Purified Air to the Animal Care Industry

(PRESS RELEASE) ST. CHARLES, IL – PetAirapy, LLC, (PetAirapy), announces that June 2018 marks the tenth anniversary since its founding as a manufacturer of non-toxic ultraviolet germicidal (UVGI or UV) sanitizing technology for the animal care industry. PetAirapy was the result of founder Annette Uda’s quest to find an effective, non-toxic solution for her Shih Tzu, Tasha, who suffered for years from environmental allergies including sores, ear infections, loss of hair, and more. When steroids, medicated shampoos, and antibiotics failed to deliver lasting relief, Annette was prompted by her veterinarian to figure out a way to control the source of the environmental allergies. Her extensive research and passion to help Tasha led Annette to UVGI and its ability to purify the air and surfaces of not only of allergens but also disease-causing pathogens.

“After I witnessed, and my veterinarian confirmed, Tasha’s environmental allergies were virtually eliminated in a short period of time, I knew I needed to bring this UVGI technology to the animal care industry,” said Uda. “While this type of UV is completely safe and has been used in hospital environments for more than 100 years, PetAirapy recognizes that environments where animals are housed together are not the same as human conditions; in fact, the conditions in animal environments pose a higher risk for disease outbreaks, which is why we focus our efforts exclusively on the animal care industry.”

Since its founding in June 2008, PetAirapy has grown exponentially. Today, the company’s UVGI air purification systems currently clean and sanitize the air and surfaces in animal care facilities across the U.S. and internationally, as well as in hundreds of homes, helping prevent and eliminate airborne pathogens, such as canine influenza (dog flu), feline calicivirus, canine parvovirus, canine distemper, canine (kennel) cough, as well as allergens. Testing by universities and independent EPA-approved laboratories of PetAirapy’s propriety sizing method confirms a greater than 99% kill rate of animal and zoonotic pathogens. PetAirapy also helps naturally eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odors without the need for harsh chemicals made with synthetic fragrance that may make the air quality worse by simply masking odors.

“Today, ten years later, even though Tasha is no longer with me, I’m more determined than ever to create safe, healthy, disease and allergen-free environments for pet boarding facilities, shelters, dog daycares, pet homes, anywhere animals are housed together,” said Uda. “She was small, but her legacy is mighty, and I look forward to the next ten years of helping more animals.”

VA and Pet Partners Combine Efforts to Bring Therapy Animal Services to More Veterans

(PRESS RELEASE) The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has announced it is partnering with the nonprofit organization Pet Partners to help improve quality of life, social engagement and health of veterans through increased access of animal-assisted activities and animal-assisted therapy services throughout the VA health care system.

Pet Partners and the VA will train therapy animal teams and encourage VA medical facilities to establish and expand trained therapy animal visitation and AAA and AAT programs to give patients the sense of connection, comfort and joy that comes from spending time with animals.

“This partnership will add to the health care services and programs VA offers to veterans, as emerging research recognizes the positive effects interactions with animals can have on patients,” said VA Secretary Robert Wilkie. “VA’s work with Pet Partners will help veterans support well-being through animal-assisted activities and therapy, which research shows can be very beneficial.”

The partnership will also provide veteran communities with volunteer opportunities and integrate veterans and their families into Pet Partners activities and events.

According to a wide range of research and studies, the human-animal bond can lead to lower blood pressure, reduced risk for cardiovascular disease, and lessened anxiety, pain, and loneliness. Time with therapy animals not only promotes physical and mental health but also supports wellness across variables such as social interaction, rate of recovery and personal motivation.
