Primal Pet Product Group has broken ground on a nearly $32 million manufacturing plant expansion in Abilene, TX.
The project is taking place at the Five Point Business Park, the Abilene Reporter News reports. The expansion is “expected to support about 250 jobs in Abilene over the next few years, both through creation and retention,” according to the news outlet.
The site was the location of Prairie Dog Pet Products, a report from KTAB/KRBC notes. The facility will be Primal Pet’s largest.
“As we rename it from Prairie Dog to Primal Pet Group, those employees will stay with us and we will be adding more jobs as we further develop out the factory,” Primal Pet CEO Tim Simonds was quoted saying.
Kinderhook Industries LLC acquired Fairfield, CA-based Primal Pet earlier this month. With the acquisition, Kinderhook brings together portfolio companies Primal Pet Foods and Prairie Dog Pet Products, a premium specialty manufacturer and marketer of freeze-dried, smoked and natural dog treats. The combination together with the Himalayan and Holisitic Hound brands creates the newly formed Primal Pet Group, or PPG.
