Great Aspirations

I really enjoyed June’s issue and found a lot of great tips in there to apply to my dog walking and pet-sitting company. I know I may not be your target audience, but I enjoy seeing what others are doing, and I aspire to open a groom shop next year. Julia Rohan, Rover-Time Dog Walking & Pet Sitting, Chicago, IL

Irresponsible and Dangerous

Your feature on the Doggie School Bus calling it the “Best of the Best” (May, page 49) took me for a loop. At first, I was excited to see the feature. You had me up until I saw the picture of the inside of the Doggie School Bus. I counted at least 11 dogs in the picture. This is not the “Best of the Best” that I have looked forward to in PETS+ for issue after issue. Loose dogs crammed into a van with no means of restraint is, to say the least, irresponsible and highly dangerous. In the future, please consider industry safety standards when featuring pet service businesses. Sonya Wilson, Southpaws Playschool, Austin, TX

Less Thrifty

It seems like the pet store consumer is becoming more knowledgeable of products and less thrifty. This is helping our staff to take time to match customers with the appropriate products. Matthew Albright, Phillips Pet Supply Outlet, Bath, PA

Healthy & Happy

My business grows each year, and I am so happy to help the owners and their dogs in our community. I like to see them all healthy and happy. Carol A. Andersen, Barkfield Road, East Northport, NY

First-Timer

I happened to get my first copy of your magazine and quickly fell in love with it. Great reading material. I love to have ideas from other pet business as we can all share ideas of how we grow our business. Tammi Bui, Wishbone Pet Care, Missouri City, TX

Working on It!

I love your Manager’s To-Do Lists. I have a bad habit of letting things distract me, but I am working on that! Since we recently moved to a downtown area, I am determined to organize my daily routine and build, build, build! Melissa Ripple, Paws & Effects, Eustis, FL

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
