  • DR. BECKER’S Warrior Bites. We did a promotion for Law Enforcement Officer Day. Officers could get a free bag when they shopped that day. We took $2 off for all other customers. The company supports police K9 units, military service dogs and search-and-rescue dogs by providing a bag of bites to them for every bag sold.   • SAFEPAW Ice Melt. We haven’t had a real winter in a couple of years, and right after our first snow went into 96 hours below freezing. I was selling an 8-pound jug for $29.99.   • We are knocking it out of the park with NON-STOP dog boots! We sold $6,000 dollars worth of just their boots! The crazy thing is that the majority of the boots are just $16 for a set of four!   • We hosted a “Jungle Sniffari” for our daycare dogs, and 66% participated at $15 per dog. We stashed tiny kangaroo treats among green tissue paper, plastic safari hats and paper jungle animal cutouts to create an adventure.   • Raw chicken feet. We buy them local, package them in a 10-pack and sell them frozen. People are really liking them, and it opens up the conversation to discuss both the benefits of raw (for some dogs) and about oral health and its importance for overall health.   • TUESDAY’S NATURAL DOG COMPANY Beef Cheek Rolls were one of our biggest sellers for January. We sold 23 of the large size at $13.99 each. While 23 isn’t a lot, with the variety of chews we carry, selling 23 of one single item that retails over $10 is a big deal.   • MY INTELLIGENT PET Sudoku Puzzle for dogs. Normally $24.99, but our enrichment sale had 20% off all puzzles to help dogs in the cold. This was a new item for us. We sold seven of this puzzle alone. — Carmen Alcalde, Bad Dog Frida, Madison, WI
  • Nail Trims for $15. Just regular advertising on our social media. We did 140, and we only have one nail trimmer. We get a lot of new customers from just word of mouth.  — Kirsten Puhr, The NW Dog, Poulsbo, WA

  • One of our bestselling products in January was RAISED RIGHT Gently Cooked Dog Food. This product was a hit due to its high-quality, human-grade ingredients and single-protein formulas, making it a great choice for pet parents seeking minimally processed, fresh food for their dogs. Raised Right’s commitment to transparency, with lab-tested safety and traceable sourcing, further built customer trust.  We sold 86 units at $10.99 per unit. The strong sales were driven by customer education on the benefits of gently cooked diets, in-store recommendations for dogs with sensitivities or picky eaters, and the growing demand for fresh, high-quality pet food. — Victor Santucci, Garden State Pet Center, Audubon, NJ
  • Progility supplements from KOHA/NOOTIE. Most specifically the Hip & Joint (regular and max) and the probiotic. It has been a game changer. Many of our customers who used a variety of other brands have tried them and switched! They have lots of different herbal and natural ingredients, and you feed fewer than others, which makes it last so much longer. Pricing among formula varies, but for 90 soft chews $37-$47. Feeding for a 50-pound dog with most brands is four to five chews. Feeding for Progility is one to two. It’s crazy!   • We continue to do well with birthday cakes.  We sold 22 in January at $22.99 each. We get them from a local woman who owns her own dog treat business! They are always fresh and delicious!   • We gave a coupon to every dog wash customer: $3 OFF with a $9.99 purchase. Almost every customer took advantage, purchasing treats, toys and supplies to reward their dogs. We did it for two weeks at the beginning of January to celebrate the New Year with clean and happy dogs.   • Dog houses were a great seller in January. We’re located in a rural area, and there are a lot of outdoor and farm dogs.
