Angie Scavone made a dream shared by many come true: She and husband Joe founded a farm to enrich their already full life together. Called Scavone’s Outpost, it provides a home to an eclectic mix of animals, including camels, wallabies, coatimundis, rabbits, Clydesdale and miniature horses, goats, sheep, llamas, turkeys, chickens, a mini-cow and a rescue chinchilla. The Great Danes and Dobermans they breed, among them Foxy and Hayden above, inspired their nutrition-focused store and also live on the farm — in the house, of course. Angie finds that their private “zoo” helps bring balance to her life.

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
