A dog in the Phoenix area is back with its family after four years away.

Chewy went missing four years ago, ABC 15 reports.

The Torres family had owned Chewy for only six months at the time. They think someone may have taken the dog from the yard.

The family had just about given up on ever seeing Chewy again. But recently someone found the dog, who was microchipped, and took him to Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.

He was soon back with the Torres family, but in poor condition. He’d clearly “received trauma from type of animal,” said Jose Santiago, spokesman for Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.

Chewy had multiple injuries, including a broken jaw and a hurt leg that had to be amputated.
