(PRESS RELEASE) West Paw is joining 800+ companies to participate in a nonpartisan effort to show the power of what the business community can achieve when it works to address one of the most significant issues of our time, low voter turnout. “Voting is the lifeblood of a democracy. It’s a hard-won right, a weighty responsibility and an incredible privilege that too often goes unexercised in America, says West Paw, CEO and Owner, Spencer Williams. Continues Williams “The more people feel empowered to use their voice, the stronger our country will be.”

Voter turnout in the U.S. is one of the lowest in the developed world. One of the most common reasons people give for not voting is that they’re too busy with the demands of work and life. West Paw is committed to giving our employees the time and the tools they need to be active and engaged citizens.

Beginning in September and leading up to Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, West Paw will be providing the time and tools for their employees to exercise their right to vote. – confirming voting status, how to register, if needed, how to access early voting and vote-by-mail options, and accessing education on candidates and issues.

As part of Time to Vote, West Paw is encouraging all employees to participate and engage in this important civic duty by providing Paid Time Off (PTO) to support this initiative. Employees will receive up to two hours of additional PTO to help them prepare to vote by researching candidates and issues. Employees will also receive additional hours of PTO to cast their votes, either by completing a mail-in ballot or voting in person at polling locations. West Paw will be sharing this initiative to outside companies in hopes of increasing involvement.

In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
