IN THE THIRD PETS+ COVID-19 Impact Survey, we focused on the segment of the pet industry most impacted by government restrictions: grooming salons and grooming departments in pet stores.
We asked, “Are you requiring employees to wear masks?” A combined 76 percent said they do, with 21 percent responding “Yes, at all times” and 55 percent responding “Yes, but only when social distancing can’t be maintained or when engaging with human clients.”
Carrie Stroble of Carrie’s Critter Couture & Biscuit Bar in Arnold, CA, already had the practice in place before the pandemic. “This is just smart for lung health. Groomers should be using masks to prevent white lung (inhaling dander).”
Jessica Cooke of Yuppy Puppy in O’Fallon, MO, leaves the choice of whether to wear a mask up to her employees. “Many do, but [it’s] not mandatory.
Richie Powell of All American Pet Supplies & Grooming in Springfield, OR, also said, “It’s their choice.”
