Dollar General Begins Testing Self-Checkout Concept

Dollar General (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) has begun testing out a self-checkout-only concept through some existing locations, according to the company’s Chief Operating Officer Jeff Owen, who revealed this during the company’s first-quarter earnings call last Thursday.

The discount retailer is planning to test the concept in roughly 200 of its 18,000 stores throughout the remainder of 2022. Associates will still be on hand in store to assist customers if needed.

Dollar General opened 239 new stores during its first quarter.
