Dollar General to Open 1000 Upscale Stores by 2025

Popshelf, Dollar General’s new upscale concept that launched about one year ago, will have about 1000 locations by the end of the 2025 fiscal year, according to CNBC. Currently, the brand operates 30 stores in six states and plans to open a 100 more locations next fiscal year.

Popshelf has proven popular among more affluent, suburban shoppers and its average basket size and value is higher than at Dollar General stores, said Chief Merchandising Officer Emily Taylor.

Dollar General also announced it would test its first international stores in Mexico, where it will open 10 locations by the end of fiscal 2022. Overall, the retailer has plans for 1100 new stores – including Popshelf and Dollar General both U.S. and Mexico – in the new fiscal year.
