MyRightBird Announces ‘What My Pet Bird Means to Me’ Video Contest

(PRESS RELEASE) MyRightBird, a campaign dedicated to encouraging responsible pet bird ownership, will be inviting bird owners to submit cute, funny or heartwarming videos of their pets as part of its upcoming “What My Pet Bird Means to Me” video contest. With the goal of spreading awareness of the joys and benefits of owning a pet bird, the contest will run from May 25, 2022 to July 15, 2022 and will be open to all bird owners in the U.S. People will have an opportunity to vote for their favorite video at MyRightBird.com, and a committee of judges will select the winners from the 10 videos with the most votes. The winners will be announced on September 17 – which is National Pet Bird Day – with a top prize of $1,000.

Brent Weinmann of Vitakraft had this to say about the contest: “BEAK’s mission is to grow responsible pet bird ownership. Over the years, we have built our website into a great resource to help bird owners learn about their pets and celebrate their relationships. We believe that offering bird parents an opportunity to submit videos showing off their companions will allow other bird owners, as well as non-bird owners, to see what great pets birds can be. Of course, it is critical that people understand the care that birds need, so we always recommend doing the research and consulting with an avian professional before making the decision to acquire a bird.”

According to the contest rules, participants must submit an original video lasting between 30 seconds and three minutes that showcases their pet bird in action. After uploading their videos to YouTube, Instagram or Vimeo, participants will submit the link via an entry form at MyRightBird.com. The contest will be promoted across various social media channels with the hashtag #bestpetbird, encouraging bird owners to submit their videos and the general public to cast their votes.

“What My Pet Bird Means to Me” video contest is supported by the pet products industry leaders behind MyRightBird. Formed in 2016, MyRightBird is the public-facing marketing campaign of the Bird Enjoyment & Advantage Koalition (BEAK), a multiple award-winning, 501(c)(4) nonprofit composed of bird product manufacturers and associations. At MyRightBird.com, visitors are invited to take a fun and engaging quiz designed to pair them with the right bird species for their lifestyle. The website also features resources to help visitors find a bird in their area, as well as retailers for bird supplies and avian veterinarians. Content intended to engage bird lovers and provide information about the proper care of pet birds is also published regularly at the MyRightBird Facebook page, which has nearly 240,000 followers.
