Petaluma Introduces New Plant-Based Dog Food Designed Especially for Senior Dogs

(PRESS RELEASE) OAKLAND, CA — Petaluma, the plant-based dog nutrition company that prioritizes our pets and the planet, has announced its first senior formula. The Baked Pumpkin & Peanut Butter Flavor is veterinarian-formulated to provide aging dogs with the complete and balanced nutrition they need for a long, healthy life.

“Just as humans benefit from a diet optimized to their age and lifestyle, the same goes for our pets. When our own dog entered his golden years, however, we noticed the plant-based category was lacking in options for seniors,” said Garrett Wymore, CEO and co-founder of Petaluma. “Our new Baked Pumpkin & Peanut Butter Flavor addresses this gap as the first plant-based formula to specifically consider the specific needs of senior dogs.”

The new Baked Pumpkin and Peanut Butter Flavor uses wholesome, functional ingredients to target common health concerns. Age-defying nutrients target inflammation, support healthy weight and mobility, and provide digestive support. The evidence-based food is baked with peanut butter and applesauce and finished with odor-fighting herbs. Each cup has high-quality supplements baked in, including DHA omega-3 from algae oil, curcumin extract from turmeric, dietary fiber from pumpkin, and plant-based glucosamine.

“As a veterinarian and pet food formulator, I know firsthand how critical nutrition is in the overall health and longevity of a dog. A proper diet can help prevent and address chronic illness as well as support healthy weight, mobility, and cognitive functioning. There are one-size-fits-all formulas – usually marketed as ‘All Life Stage’ diets – on the market, however, lifestage-specific diets offer optimized nutrition based on your dog’s changing metabolic needs that come with age. Petaluma’s senior formula is plant-based and has optimized levels of vitamins, minerals, protein, fat, and fiber for senior dogs,” said Dr. Blake Hawley, veterinarian and lead formulator for Petaluma.

Petaluma relies on scientific evidence and expert consensus to design diets that provide optimal nutrition, while simultaneously utilizing a radically sustainable supply chain. The company carefully selects ingredients that have important nutritional functions and sources them from sustainable, organic farms. Both the new senior and existing adult formulas have been formulated to meet the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profile for adult maintenance.

While this formula is appropriate for all adult dogs, it is tailored to dogs reaching their senior phase of life, which varies significantly based on a dog’s size and breed. Petaluma Baked Pumpkin and Peanut Butter Flavor will be available at feedpetaluma.com in five and 18-pound bags.
