West Paw Names New President, Peter Cleary

(PRESS RELEASE) BOZEMAN, MT —West Paw CEO and Owner, Spencer Williams, announced Peter Cleary has been promoted to president of West Paw. In his new role, he is set to manage West Paw’s leadership team, set company priorities, build a culture focused on delighting customers, ensure strategic and financial goal accomplishment, oversee companywide communication, and execute on the vision of the CEO.

“Peter is a delight to work alongside because of his alignment with our Core Values, his diverse business background, and thoughtful leadership. He helps all of us on the West Paw team to build a stronger culture and company. I have full confidence that in this new role, he will continue to build upon our tremendous, mission-driven growth at West Paw,” said Williams. “We are both committed to furthering our business as a force for good to help future generations enjoy a healthy planet and strong communities. I’m thrilled to be working with him in this new capacity.”

First joining West Paw in 2019, Cleary held the role of CFO, where he led teams managing finances, culture, and technology. He also oversaw annual strategic planning, managed external banking relations, and served as a strategic support to the CEO. While in the role, Cleary leaned into manufacturing excellence and achieved the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) Lean Bronze Certification.

“This role is an exciting opportunity to narrow my focus on growing the impact we’re making at West Paw by cultivating a talented team with a shared passion for delighting our customers,” Cleary said. “Meanwhile, Spencer will dedicate more of his time to our mission, our incredible innovation, and to furthering our purpose-driven approach to business for the love of dogs, people and the planet.”

West Paw has been family owned and operated from Bozeman, Montana since their foundation in 1996. The company has recycled almost 150,000 pounds of award-winning dog toys, spun over 16 million water bottles into dog beds and toy stuffing, and innovated a toy line, Seaflex, that reclaims ocean-bound plastic.

West Paw’s complete line of Creamy, Freeze-Dried, and Air-Dried Dog Treats are all humanely raised, sustainably sourced, and made in the USA to support the company’s mission for a healthier world all of our dogs can enjoy. In 2013, West Paw led the pet industry as the first Certified B Corporation, joining the fast-growing list of companies and nonprofits worldwide committed to making a difference. Last year marked West Paw’s 10th anniversary as a Certified B

Corporation, an important milestone for the company and an achievement that has been celebrated far and wide.

As a Founding Member of the Pet Sustainability Coalition, West Paw continues to support more companies in doing good. In 2015, West Paw became the first company doing business in Montana to change their corporate status to a Benefit Corporation. And in 2021, West Paw also expanded its commitment to their recycling program, Join the Loop, by offering free in-store recycling collection “centers” to their retailers.
