(PRESS RELEASE) ST. CHARLES, MO – To support shelters and rescues in their care for vulnerable kittens during transitional periods, Royal Canin, a leader in feline nutrition, is partnering with Million Cat Challenge to offer a kitten management webinar series. The free, five-part series will be led by experts and heroes in the kitten rescue and veterinary world.

“We’ve seen a dramatic rise in feline welfare and overall lifesaving in North American shelters, but kittens still remain the most vulnerable species to enter the sheltering system,” said Dr. Kate Hurley, director of Koret Shelter Medicine Program and co-founder of the Million Cat Challenge. “We know kittens are best cared for by their mothers. When that’s not possible, safety nets outside shelter walls, like foster volunteers, offer kittens the best chance of survival until they are old enough to be adopted. We’re excited to be offering this series designed to help shelters deeply engage their communities in providing the absolute best care we can give these youngsters.”

Every Thursday from August 6 through September 3, 2020, cat advocates from across the country can learn more about kitten care and safety, the mom-kitten relationship, shelter intake philosophies, and strategies for adoption. All episodes will be streamed here, as well as available to view on demand following the event:

  • “Kitten Intake in Animal Shelters” with Dr. Kate Hurley and Kitten Lady, Hannah Shaw
  • “Support for Kittens in the Field” with Dr. Julie Levy
  • “Foster Greatness” with Dr. Sara Pizano
  • “Kitten Care in the Shelter” with Dr. Cindi Delany
  • “Going Home” with Dr. Sara Pizano

“Together with Million Cat Challenge, we are striving to support shelters and rescues in hopes to improve the care and livelihood of cats and kittens,” said Anthony Wild, Cat Acceleration Director of Royal Canin USA. “By offering ongoing education, sharing success stories and keeping the inspiration alive for our fellow shelter partners, we can continue to help make the world a better place for cats.”

Royal Canin is offering exclusive discounts through its Royal Canin Crown Partners loyalty program where shelters and rescues can receive savings on all the innovative health nutrition formulas for cats. Visit apply.royalcanin.com to learn more.

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
