It’s a perennial favorite.
The labrador retriever has landed at the top of the American Kennel Club’s list of the country’s most popular dog breeds — for the 26th year in a row.
At No. 2 on the list is the German shepherd, followed by the golden retriever.
It’s interesting to note that the rottweiler landed at No. 8, its highest ranking since 1997, when it was No. 2.
“The Labrador Retriever has a strong hold on the top spot, and doesn’t show signs of giving it up anytime soon,” said AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo. “The Lab is such a versatile dog that it’s no wonder it makes a great companion for a variety of lifestyles. Keep your eye on the Rottweiler, though. It’s been quietly winning hearts over the past decade.”
