We asked the PETS+ Brain Squad which products stood out in terms of sales in February.

  • Fluff & Tuff Chandler Chicken. We ended up placing two orders! Kaye Busse-Kleber, Bark On Mulford, Rockford, IL
  • We just brought in Square Pet vet-formulated food (mid-February). No specials, but a new product for us, and it has done well. We sold 17 bags in about two weeks (mostly the small bags for them to try, but a handful of customers have been back to buy larger bags). Shari Wilkins, Lake Dog and Their People, Eufaula, OK
  • Paws Up Ultimate Paw Cleaning Kit. I don’t typically carry products that aren’t food or treats, so revenue wasn’t huge, but customer response was great. $500 in revenue. I think as the muddy season starts and we promote it better, sales will grow. Amber Sutfin, Pet Wants, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Best Shot shampoo. A Valentine’s Day-weekend grooming special led to dozen+ baths, leading to add-on sales of the shampoo. Cross-sell link made the difference! Bob Sanders, Dude Ranch Pet Resort, Glen Allen, VA
  • Month after month, I am shocked how many dog cookies from Preppy Puppy Bakery we sell as an impulse item at the counter. Amber Hudson, The Aquarium Pet Store, Weatherford, OK
  • Earthborn Feline Monterey Medley canned cat food, 5.5oz. We sold 79 units at $2.29 each and sell over 1,000 cans annually. This line of cat food is such a great seller for us, palatable and affordable for a super premium option that will always be successful for us. The volume we sell just blows me away! Morgan Monty, The Cheshire Horse, Swanzey, NH
  • Open Farm. We partnered with our Open Farm rep to expand our selection for dog and cat, ran a monthly promotion along with setting sales goals for stores to meet. Both stores met their goals and earned prizes! Michelle Smith, Natural Pet Center, Fargo, ND
  • Jones Natural Chews Beef Woofers (205 units sold) and Chicken & Cranberry Woofers (203 units sold). Just a very popular dog treat/chew. No promotions or anything special. Britt & Melissa Sturm, Agri Feed Pet Supply, Knoxville, TN
  • Etta Says Cookie Crunchers. They have a display that I have near the register,.They retail for $1 each. A customer will buy three to five at a time. I sell about 36 a week Pam Alerine, Style Mutt, Cleveland, OH
  • Home Range Beef Esophagus. Sold 47. These are a great add-on at the counter, but we also ran a “Buy 3, Get 1 Free” on single chews for Pet Dental Health Month. Sheena Kirkwood, Felicity’a Pet Supplies, Bellefonte, PA
  • Tuesday’s Natural Dog 12-inch Braided Beef Gullet. Sold 47 $3.88/$8.99. Customers love the Tuesday’s chew bar. They are looking for chews that last a decent amount of time but are not hard on the teeth. Karen Komisar, Sea Dog Pet Boutique, Annapolis, MD
  • Green Juju frozen goat food. We can’t seem to keep this product in stock. Julie Sterling, Julz Animal Houz, Marysville, WA
  • SafePaws Ice Melt. I couldn’t keep it in stock once I was finally able to get a restock. Jennifer Hall, All Things Pawssible, Charlottesville, VA
  • Canned food. Sales have increased at our store as more customers come to understand the benefits of adding wet food to kibble to increase the nutritional value of the bowl. We talk about this with our customers. Four of our top 12 selling items (by quantity) were canned dog food. Both Open Farm and Fromm had promotions on wet food In February. Amy & Pat Schiek, Lucky Dogs, Skaneateles, NY
  • Portland PET home-style dinners Love the gently cooked recipes and the shelf stable. We had a sample day and sold a bunch!! Lauren Gallagher, everything but the dog, Reading, MA

  • Adaptil plugins we did a promo on on passive calming aids Kristi Kay May, Legend Acres, Surprise, AZ
  • Woof HonestChews were our best-selling product in February, specifically the medium antler. We sold 78 of these during the month without any promotions or brand support. I believe the uptick in sales was due to TikTok and social media awareness. Carra Smith, Dog Days Barkery, Mobile, AL
  • Small Batch Raw Beef 18-pound cases were our best seller by far. We had no sales or promotions, but we do have Astro Loyalty. Beth Kidd, Dogs By Design, Irwin, PA
  • Smalls cat food did real well at all three stores. Eric Mack, Purrrfect Bark, Columbus, NC
  • Steve’s Real Food, I believe we sell so much of it because it is a great quality raw food, but the price is reasonable and with it being a part of the frequent-buyer program, we are able to really sell it. Yolanda DeGaetano, PT Pet Supply, Webster, MA
  • We love introducing new items to our customers. We brought in WAG & Bright Mighty Marrows. We purchased four boxes (1 of each flavor with 18 per box). They retail at $17.99. We offered $2 off to get people to try them. Less than 2 weeks later, we have already reordered. They are available in three sizes. We only stock the large. Rebeca Santos, Pets Love and Happiness, Huntsville, AL
  • A Pup Above because vets are agreeable to this when they don’t support raw. Tamie Waugh, Cobber’s Pet Pantry, Enumclaw, WA
  • Pawzlers dog toys sold out. Reorder on the way! didn’t have to do much but put them out on the tables! Kathleen Vandermoss, All Natural Pet Supply, Vancouver, WA
  • One of our top sellers last month was a new line of fruit and veggie chips we just started carrying by K9 Granola Factory. They come in both soft or crunchy options, most of which are single ingredient, which is great for pups with allergy or digestive issues. Some are even a great low-cal option for pups watching their figure. The green beans and carrot chips, in particular, have been the most popular due to my recommendations towards our customers. They range from 4 to 12 ounces in size and retail for $10.99-$13.99, making them super affordable too! We sold six units last month and 18 the month before. Corey Heenan, Boutique and Pet Spa, Altamont, NY

  • Our top seller by dollar amount was 50-pound bags of Sunflower Hearts for wild birds. We sold 35 bags at $76.95. No sale, just cold weather and lots of snow makes people want to feed the birds. Shelly Nicastro, Essex Bird & Pet Supply, Essex, MA
  • Our Valentine’s Day bakery cookies from Paws Gourmet Bakery were huge hits! We have a tray of specialty gourmet cookies at our counter year-round. We purchase seasonal cookies from Paws Gourmet regularly. The Valentine’s Day ones were as cute as usual and great impulse buys! We sell them for $3.80 each. We ordered six different Valentine’s Day styles and had them out right after the new year. I think tighter budgets keep people from purchasing big bags of treats or more expensive toys, but a cute affordable cookie is usually fit into the budget. Shell Tomjack, The sPaw, Rapid City, SD
  • Saint Rocco’s Dog Treats. They are soft jerky treats made with human-grade ingredients. They smell amazing and have fast become a fan favorite. They come in 8-ounce bags, and we carry Cheeseburger, Meat Lover’s, Alaskan Cod and Beef & Pumpkin. We price them at $13.99, and they sell like hot cakes! No sales needed. Just have a bag at the register for all your four-legged customers and treat them away! Kimberly Gatto, The Wagging Tail, Las Vagas, NV
  • Dental month was good to us. We were full for our dental-cleaning partnership and sold a lot more dental health products than normal, especially the Plaqueoff Powder. Taylor England, Earthwise Pet Lake Nona, Orlando, FL
  • Quantity-wise, Happy Claws Lucky Paws freeze-dried salmon fins. They are an amazing company that I truly believe every single store should give a shot. We sell the fins for $1.29 a pop, and we keep them in a large jar with a lid so the shop cats can’t help themselves. We sold 43 fins last month, and I would attribute some of the sales to our shop cat’s excellent salesmanship — he will take you straight to the jar. Jennifer Flanagan, Pacific NW Pets, Sherwood, OR
  • Inclover Connectin. We buy about seven to 10 a week (we are a small store). Our customers want prevention so they don’t have to go to the vet. Jennifer Pastorini, Dusty’s Den, Sonora, CA
  • Momentum freeze-dried treats were one of our top sellers. I have not done any promotions with them, but when people come in and ask for a good quality treat, I often point people in that direction. Also, I give out freeze-dried treats in the store, and all of the dogs love them, which helps to sell them! Randy Walker, Lakeshore Pet Boutique, Douglas, MI
  • As always, our homemade dog food meals and homemade cookies are our biggest seller. We do approximately 1,000 meals a week. Our next biggest seller this month was our new addition chew bar from Nothing to Hide. Cindy Ackerman, Woofies Gourmet Dog Bakery, Rochester, NY
  • Dr. Marty’s Small Breed. Like, is the secret out or something? We can’t keep it on the shelves! Adina Silberstein, Queenie’s Pets, Philadelphia, PA
  • Live reptiles and setups for them. We always have pre-made setups of appropriate size and containing all of the necessary equipment to successfully have a reptile. These make it very easy for customers to grab and go. Reptiles were very popular in February, and it seems to be continuing into March. Danyle Morse, Claremont Pet & Aquarium Center, Claremont, NH
  • Brazilian Ham Bones from Scoochie Pet Products. We sell them for $3.99 and sold 68 of them last month! Bill Trufant, B & B Pet Stop, Inc., Mobile, AL
  • We brought in Raw Dynamic, and it’s off to a good start. No promotion, but I feel the packaging stands out, and since the company includes beets in its formula the food appears more pink/red. Cynthia McKinney, Loyl’s Natural Pet, Houston, TX
  • It’s our anniversary month, so it’s always a fun month for us. This year we held a Sniffari scavenger hunt in the shop and we used Give Pet bulk biscuits, Smallbatch Super Boosters and Polkadog Wonder Nuggets in the secret pouches hidden around the store. BY FAR, Smallbatch Super Boosters were the winner, and we sold them as a “Buy 2, Get 1 Free” for the day, supported by Smallbatch. Molly Lewis, Dog River Pet Supplies, Hood River, OR
  • ANP Turkey Pumpkin Dog food 12 pounds, 23 bags. Natalya Schilling, Pets on Brady, Greendale, WI
  • Grandma Lucy’s treats only because I did a panic order in Jan 🤣, which came in clutch because they were out of stock pretty much everywhere. They are 14 ounces and sell for about $16 a bag, and come in apple, pumpkin, blueberry and banana. Chewy was out of them, which helped a lot, and we also sampled a lot out. We sold 135 bags in one month. Lori Colburn, Natures Pet Market Orenco, Hillsboro, OR
  • Tuesday’s natural dog chews Ostrich Flat Sticks were a best seller in February. We sold about 100 of them. They were a new bulk item for us that we displayed near the checkout. Joanna Shaw, All Pet & Equine Supply, Mountain Home, AR
  • Petsafe ice melt and 50-pound Black Oil sunflower seed. We ran a snowstorm special for three to four days in preparation for a big winter storm, and it was very successful. We only made 10% per bag, but the jump in sales was pretty substantial. Cassie Nilsson, The Mill Stores, Whiteford, MD
  • ShepHerd Boy Farms freeze-dried minnows were a hit for us in February compared to other minnow brands. We sold about 25 units at $20.32 each. I think the reason is that they use a different process for the freeze dried, and when we explained that, people wanted to try it. Angela Velasquez, The Kitty Bodega, Houston, TX
  • One big seller by volume was the Barkworthies rabbit rolls; we sold 109 at $2.09 each. They’re an affordable novel protein chew/treat that works for cats and dogs, and I think some people like that they are wrapped to take away some of the “ick” factor of it being rabbit. Shane Somerville, Paddywack, Mill Creek, WA
  • Grooming is always at the top. Our local treats are a hit! We sell Mountain Wild and Bully Boy. Kris Lamoreaux, Healthy Pets Mountain West, Cottonwood Heights, UT
  • WOOF dental chews and refills for Dental Month. Andrea Demmons, The TailGait Market, Asheville, NC
  • Our freeze-dried dog food category jumped by 15% over the previous month, with Steve’s real pet food topping the list. I think many customers purchased freeze dried over the raw because many of them were traveling. Diana Farrar, Fifi & Fidos Pet Boutique, San Antonio, TX
  • One of our strongest performing categories in February was Plush Toys. That category generated over $3500 in net sales at Drooly’s Dog Bakery in Bentonville, Arkansas. The majority of sales came from Fluff & Tuff plush toys and HuggleHounds. These brands continue to perform well for us because they combine durability with personality. Customers recognize them as toys that can withstand play while being fun and engaging. Plush toys are a natural add-on purchase. Many customers visiting our bakery for fresh treats will grab a toy while checking out. This is the first category we rush to fill the wall back up after Holiday Hangover. Our shop girl Honey is obsessed with Fluff & Tuff’s Troy Beaver! Robert L. Critselous, Drooly’s Dog Bakery, Bentonville, AR
  • Weruva canned cat and dog food, all flavors and sizes. Sold a total of 1,094 units. One promo run on 2/28 for our Anniversary Sale. Denise Strong, Pawz On Main, Cottonwood, AZ
  • Stash jumbo beef bully sticks! These seem to be perfectly balanced between price and quality for our customers. We sold 20 of the 6-inch bully sticks at $6.99 last month. Katherine Ostiguy, Crossbones, Providence, RI
  • Waggin Tails Collegen Chews, no promo but new in February to us. Can’t keep them in stock. Jennifer Thomas, Lucky Dog Pet Grocery & Bakery, Lawrence, KS
  • ZooMax bird toys. Hundreds of different toys, made for parakeets to the biggest macaws. Colorful and durable. Price is very fair. They stand out on our 45-foot toy wall. Paul Lewis, Birds Unlimited, Webster, NY
  • Health Extension shelf-stable gently cooked is still a top performer. Many customers are frustrated with Farmer’s Dog and other subscription services based on freezer space needed, budget, etc. This is ready to serve, buy what you want and reasonably priced. Brett Foreman, euPAWria Holistic Pet Center, Owego, NY

Hot Sellers — Services

  • Our self-serve dog wash was HOPPING last month. Despite weather forcing us to be closed three full days, including two Sundays, sales were still up. I think getting stuck indoors with a stinky dog for a few days helped. Ashley Lancaster, Hot Diggity, Barnstable, MA
  • Our teeth brushing add-on sold well due to our pet dental-month promotion. We offered a free dental treat to anyone who signed up for our teeth-brushing promo with their bath or groom. The promo was $13 and included teeth brushing, breath spray and a go-home dental chew. We sold it to 81 clients, and for those who didn’t want it we, sold them the regular teeth brushing add-on. In total, we made $1,368 in teeth brushing alone. Molly Taylor, Molly’s Mutt House, Houston, TX
  • Our best-selling service currently is our signature Puppy Day School Program, which is a drop off program for baby puppies between 8 weeks old and 8 months old. We are wildly popular during puppy season with a month-long waiting list. We don’t need any promotions; we are just great at what we do. Stephanie Bennett, Believe In Dog Training, Houston, TX
