Chewy Bringing 600 Jobs to Midwestern City

Chewy Inc. plans to open an e-commerce center in Dayton, OH, creating 600 jobs.

It’s moving into a 690,000-square-foot space next to the Dayton International Airport, the Dayton Business Journal reports.

The company has been awarded an eight-year Job Creation Tax Credit worth $1.75 million. As a condition of the tax credit, the company must remain at the location for a minimum of 11 years, according to the Business Journal.

“We look forward to making a positive economic impact in the local community of Dayton with the creation of 600 new jobs,” said Gregg Walsh, vice president of fulfillment center HR operations for Chewy. “In addition, with the enhancement of our delivery network, we’re excited to provide our customers with even faster delivery of their orders.”

The new facility will fill orders for the 30,000 items that Chewy sells, according to the Business Journal.

Chewy, based in Dania Beach, FL, was acquired last year by PetSmart for an undisclosed sum. It operates largely as an independent subsidiary.
