Chewy Plans $143M Fulfillment Center in Missouri

Chewy plans to open a fulfillment center in Missouri at a cost of over $143 million.

By 2023, the center could employ up to 1,600 people, the Kansas City Star reports.

The online pet retailer is seeking to lease nearly 800,000 square feet in the Southview Commerce Center in Belton, near Kansas City.

The company has been approved for $4 million in incentives from the Missouri Work program. Additionally, the Missouri Development Finance Board has given the OK for $2.8 million in bonds to assist in financing the effort.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that local governments are also providing sales tax breaks. The newspaper notes that Chewy picked the Missouri site over a location in Tennessee.

Chewy has eight other warehouse locations scattered throughout the U.S.
