Michelson and Tinder Partner to Match Users with Pets

Users could ‘swipe right’ to read about pets.

(Press Release) LOS ANGELES — The Michelson Found Animals Foundation, a non-profit organization with two retail locations in Southern California, partnered with the popular dating app Tinder to help users match with their perfect pet in honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day on April 30.

Tinder users nationwide were able to swipe right on adorable adoptable shelter animals that were available at Michelson Found Animals’ Adopt & Shop locations in the Los Angeles area. For users not located in the area, they were educated on the adoption process and where they could find a local shelter near them.

According to the 2017-2018 National Pet Owner Survey, millennials have surpassed baby boomers as the largest percentage of pet owners at a whopping 34 percent.

“We are always looking for unique ways to reach potential pet owners and get them on board with our cause,” said Aimee Gilbreath, executive director of Michelson Found Animals. “Tinder is how people meet these days, so it made sense for us to partner with the brand in order to get in front of valuable users to meet us, our brand and of course our pets.”

A behind the scenes video was posted to social media on April 27 and the pet profiles debuted on April 30. The profiles reached over 12.5 million Tinder users and resulted in four times the typical engagement (swipes to read about the pets).

Because of our partnership with Tinder, one pup, Tank, found his forever home. His new pet parent even renamed him Tinder. In total, nine of the featured pets have now been adopted.

In addition, famous four-legged social media influencers like Marnie the Dog and Lil Bub helped spread the word and encouraged animal lovers to join the cause.
