Believe in Dog
HOUSTON, TX
In search of a fresh and innovative way to offer dog training, Stephanie Bennett created a “dog-training experience” in a rehabbed warehouse. Inside, clients find a boutique full of curated dog products, two indoor classrooms and four outdoor play areas. Bennett knows the cool Zen-like vibe meets her goal when new clients enter and jokingly ask if it’s a dog business or a yoga studio.

Doggie Sweets
LONG BRANCH, NJ
Patricia Dill expanded her food truck and online business to include a chic pink, black and gray pet cafe. The family-run brand strives to create a fun pet-friendly destination. Dog-safe bakery treats and beverages, fun accessories, along with a grass photo wall and 360-degree photo booth, allow pet parents to make memories while contributing to steady growth in all aspects of the business.

Exotic Pet Birds Inc.
ROCHESTER, NY
Two years ago — at the request of staff — the avian-focused store added a reptile department, now the “biggest and coolest” in the territory. Owners Sal and Jamie Salafia, along with their highly educated and experienced team, have grown the business into its distinctive farm-red, 8,000 square-foot facility by demonstrating a deep commitment to their customers and the welfare of their live animals.

South Bark Dog Wash
SAN DIEGO, CA
This neighborhood anchor offers self-service dog wash, full-service grooming and retail. Many know owners Lisa Vella and Donna Walker as The Blueberry Girls for creating the brand’s signature product, South Bark’s Blueberry Facial. They continue to develop and expand as they grow their business. As one of the early self-wash providers, 25 years ago, they even wrote a book on the topic to help others find success.
