Pet Food Is Now Smucker’s Biggest Category

The pet food and treats category has become J.M. Smucker Co.’s, accounting for 38 percent of the company’s revenue, Food Business News reports.

CEO Mark Smucker shared that news during a presentation to investors.

Smucker Co. acquired Big Heart Pet Brands, including Milk-Bone, in 2015 and Ainsworth, including Rachael Ray Nutrish, earlier this year.

Smucker said the company is “confident about the talent we have in place to grow the pet business,” and several brand extensions are planned in areas such as Nutrish, Milk-Bone and Nature’s Recipe.

“We retained key individuals, both from the Big Heart and the Ainsworth companies, with substantial pet food and pet snacks expertise,” he said.
