(PRESS RELEASE) KERN COUNTY — As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, many families with pets face the dilemma of where to get pet food during lockdown. Wishbone Pet Food is assisting this month by donating 4,800+ meals to Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue. Marley’s Mutts is distributing these meals to in-need families with pets throughout Kern and Los Angeles counties.
Many families have been struggling on a daily basis already. They have been further impacted by COVID-19 “stay at home” orders. Access to essentials and pet food has become a challenge driving those with a heart for pets like Wishbone and Marley’s Mutts to help out.
For the past three weeks, Zack Skow, founder of Marley’s Mutts, has been gathering and delivering dog food to pet owners in-need throughout the county. According to Skow, some residents have been feeding their dogs trash, cat food, or even letting their dogs out to scavenge for food. The Wishbone assistance is a welcome contribution. “Wishbone, we love you. All of this food is going out to very needy families across Kern County. Thank you so much,” said Skow in a recent post on Marley’s Mutts Instagram.
Wishbone and Marley’s Mutts have had a long-term partnership that began in 2019 after Warren Rickard, president of Wishbone and Skow met at local animal rescue event. In addition to the emergency donation of 4,800+ meals, Wishbone has a commitment to Marley’s Mutts of over 2,500 meals per month. “During these trying times, we all need to work as a community and give as much support as possible. By working with Marley’s Mutts, Wishbone Pet Food is committed to providing premium food to those who need it most,” said Rickard.
