(PRESS RELEASE) WASHINGTON, DC – The Bird Enjoyment and Advantage Koalition (BEAK) announces the organization was named Leader of the Year by the Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council (PIJAC) at Global Pet Expo. The honor is part of PIJAC’s annual awards that recognizes six of its members for their efforts in advocacy, communications, and leadership.

“With the organization only being a few years old, it is an honor to be recognized by the industry for our hard work and efforts to grow responsible bird ownership,” said Todd Regan, Kaytee, President of BEAK.

Founded in 2016, BEAK was established to help grow responsible bird ownership and the consumer-facing campaign, myBird. The organization has made great strides in 2017 with the launch of www.MyRightBird.com which features an interactive bird quiz that matches people up with the right bird for their lifestyle. The website also offers a user-friendly bird locator and avian veterinarian locator. In 2018 BEAK is planning to expand the website to include bird care tips.

“We are excited for the new projects that are planned for the consumer marketing campaign and the organization in 2018 and beyond, said Brent Weinmann, Vitakraft Sun Seed, Inc., Chairperson of BEAK.

Supporters of BEAK include the American Pet Products Association (APPA), F.M. Brown’s Sons Inc., Higgins Premium Pet Foods, Kaytee, Lafeber, Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA) Prevue Pet Products, Inc., Vitakraft Sun Seed, Inc., World Pet Association (WPA), and Wyld’s Wingdom.

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
