Discount retailer Dollar General (Goodlettsville, Tenn.) will soon open its first stores in Montana, giving it outlets in all 48 states in the Continental U.S. Slated to open this fall are stores in Columbia Falls and Eureka.

“Announcing plans for Montana has an extra element of excitement at Dollar General because our expansion in the Treasure State will complete our presence throughout the lower 48,” said Steve Deckard, Dollar General’s Executive VP of Growth and Emerging Markets. “We look forward to celebrating our first Montana grand opening in the coming months and to serve new customers, employees and communities soon.”

The fast-growing retailer says it believes the addition of each new store represents positive economic impact in the communities it serves and that it takes several factors into consideration when opening new stores including how it can best serve its customers. However, as reported by The New York Times and elsewhere, such stores are controversial in some quarters that allege such outlets harm existing retailers in the markets they enter.

Dollar General currently has 19,294 Dollar General, DG Market, DGX and pOpshelf stores across the United States, along with Mi Súper Dollar General stores in Mexico.
