Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food Donates Over 10,000 Pounds of Premium Nutrition and Low-Calorie Dog Treats

(PRESS RELEASE) COS COB, CT – Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food, a leading super premium pet food company, recently donated 10,277 pounds of their nutritious pet food and low-calorie, all-natural dog treats to help feed animals in need in the Metro Detroit area. The donation is part of the pet food company’s Fill A Bowl… Feed A Soul (FABFAS) program, a national campaign targeting one million meals for shelter pets annually.

The food was first shipped to Premier Pets in Beverly Hills, MI where owner Mike Palmer oversaw the distribution to local shelters and food banks desperate for nutritious food to feed their pets. “We feel so fortunate to be able to help make the community a better place for both humans and animals,” said Mr. Palmer. “The positive energy and the passion from the rescue organizations is contagious. These rescues work so hard and do an incredible job of caring for and providing refuge for so many animals, this is the least we can do. But we truly wouldn’t be able to do it without our customers and the support of everyone in the community.”

“Working with Premier Pets has been the perfect partnership,” said Jeanne Blandford, Director of Marketing for Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food. “Many rescue organizations do not have the means to take in such a large quantity of food. Mike facilitated the process by accepting the food at his Beverly Hills location and then distributing appropriate quantities to each rescue in his community.”

Some recipients of the generous donation were: Almost Home Animal Haven in Southfield, MI, Michigan Animal Rescue, Pontiac, MI, Good Karma Puppy Rescue, White Lake, MI, Special Animal Friends and Rescue (Safari) in Livonia, MI and Paws in the D, Detroit, MI.

Charmaine Wichmann, Director of Good Karma Puppy Rescue, travels deep into the Appalachian Trail where she rescues dogs from Kentucky and West Virginia and brings them to Michigan to be treated, neutered/spayed, evaluated and adopted to welcoming homes.

“As a foster-based rescue, our fosters love and care for the puppies until they find their forever homes. Having the resources to care for puppies is a top priority. We are always in need of fosters, and we appreciate the generous donation given to us by Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food,” said Ms. Wichmann.

In addition to this recent donation to the Metro Detroit area, Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food recently partnered with Bissell Pet Foundation on their Empty the Shelters (ETS) event held on May 5th, donating 2,500 5-pound bags of cat and dog food. The food was part of the AdoptBoxes volunteers handed out to those adopting dogs and cats during this one-day event. More than 2,650 pets from 112 shelters in the United States found homes during this event. In Michigan, 66 rescue organizations participated and 752 dogs and 659 cats were adopted during this event.

“Chicken Soup for the Soul’s FABFAS program was created to help feed pets in need nationwide,” said Chris Mitchell, Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food CEO. “We work closely with our independent pet specialty retailers to identify rescue organizations in their area where our food can have a real impact. We believe that every pet should enjoy the benefits of premium nutrition. Healthy pets are happy pets and more readily adoptable,” said Mr. Mitchell.
