Ebay (San Jose, Calif.) is planning to reduce its workforce by 9 percent, according to a company statement. This move will affect about 1000 of its full-time employees.

Additionally, says Ebay President and CEO Jamie Iannone, “…we plan to scale back the number of contracts we have within our alternate workforce over the coming months. These are not actions we take lightly — and we recognize the impact they will have on all [Ebayers]. We have to say goodbye to people who have made so many important contributions to the [Ebay] community and culture, and this isn’t easy.”

The company statement was originally sent as a memo to the company’s internal workforce Tuesday, Jan. 23, before being publicly released. Employees affected by this change are currently being notified.
