Guardian Releases Bars to Feed Pups on the Go

Patent pending product ready to disrupt how pets are fed.

(PRESS RELEASE) Guardian Pet Food Company has launched an innovative pet food in a highly digestible, convenient and portable bar. Guardian’s MoRE Canine Food Bar (a play off of “Meal Ready to Eat”) is a complete and balanced day’s worth of nutrition in a 2-ounce freeze-dried bar.

“We are very excited to be distributing Guardian in our East Coast markets,” said Antoine Seailles, market strategy manager at Pet Food Experts. “Guardian’s MoRE bars are a unique product, that gives pet parents the ability to feed raw “on the go.” This partnership gives our independent retailers a new option for active, raw feeding pet parents.”

Independent third-party labs confirmed in vivo digestibility of greater than 90 percent (compared to industry average of just below 80 percent) as well as a nutrient dense 6,100 kcal/kg (industry average 3,500 for kibble and averaging less than 1,300 for “freshly prepared” meals).

“We created our MoRE Bars using only ingredients from nature so it could be easily digested by dogs and cats” said Dr. Ryan Yamka, co-founder and COO. “With targeted nutrition, dogs and cats will eat less and, in turn, put less out as waste.” Less waste is the genesis behind Guardian’s “Give us a week and we’ll give you back your yard!” campaign.

“We set out to create a different kind of pet food and to be a different kind of pet food company,” said co-founder and CEO Jim Galovski. “We focus on nutrition, not ingredients. We make products that address pet owner concerns like obesity, digestibility and convenience. Through our partnership with TerraCycle and B-Corp, we’re also taking on broader industry issues like sustainability and transparency.”

Guardian’s MoRE Canine Food Bars have an SRP of $4.99/2-ounce. bar. The company’s Whole Prey Treats for Dogs, a freeze-dried multi-component treat (available in Beef, Chicken and Turkey flavors) has an SRP of $8.99 for a 2-ounce pouch. Guardian’s products are distributed through Pet Food Experts and sold at independent pet specialty stores and on Guardian’s website, guardianbars.com.

Happy Dog Barkery Expands Retail Space

(PRESS RELEASE) Happy Dog Barkery recently expanded its retail brick-and-mortar location in downtown Downers Grove, IL. The business was sorely lacking space in the existing location, and when a neighboring store relocated, Happy Dog jumped at the opportunity to expand into their space by knocking down the adjoining wall.

Beth Staley, owner of Happy Dog Barkery states, “We’ve been talking to our landlord for a few years about needing more space. Just when we decided to move some of our operation off-site for efficiency’s sake, this opportunity presented itself. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect!”

At a time when many brick-and-mortar retail locations are suffering due to many factors, including increased online shopping, Happy Dog Barkery has enjoyed success over its 15 years. This is the company’s third expansion in the current building it has occupied for the entire life of the business, adding square footage at each expansion. Happy Dog attributes its success to its fresh offerings of dog treats, stews and birthday cakes, which is unique to the area, as well as the experience its canine and human customers get while in the store. Canine customers’ favorite treat is the house specialty: liver cake.

The new space will expand the retail floor by an additional 1,300 square feet, allowing the business to bring in a more diverse mix of specialty products for dogs, cats and humans. The new space also provides more storage area for backstock, a mixed-use room and office space.

Happy Dog Barkery is an independent, pet specialty retailer featuring its own in-house bakery for dogs (and cats, horses, pigs, etc.) Local entrepreneur Staley left her job in corporate America in 2004 with the goal of working with her own pets and owning her own business. She was motivated by her own dog’s allergies. A baker since childhood, her Labrador Retriever, Payton, was suffering from severe food allergies and there seemed to be no existing healthy treats on the market for Payton so Staley created recipes of her own that were safe for Payton to eat. That quickly led to the opening of Happy Dog Barkery in April 2004. Happy Dog Barkery is home to Kale Chips the Dog, an international weight-loss story of the beagle mix who lost half his weight.

The Functional CBD Dog Treats are a soy-free, dairy-free, corn-free and wheat-free soft-chew vegan treat that contains 6mg of hemp CBD per serving. With 15mg of glucosamine per serving, the treats also promote joint health. They contain no (0%) THC and does not produce any high.

The CBD Dog Tincture, which is based in research demonstrating the benefit of CBD for pain, inflammation, nausea and seizures, contain CBD, organic hemp seed oil, and bacon flavor oil. It contains no preservatives and additives, and, like the treat, no (0%) THC.
