(PRESS RELEASE) OAKLAND, CA — AnimalBiome is reaching out to East Bay residents to contribute their healthy pets’ poop to grow the company’s stool bank. Based in Downtown Oakland, AnimalBiome uses carefully screened feces from healthy pets to support ailing cats and dogs suffering from issues related to microbiome imbalances in the gut.

Pet parents receive $100 per month per pet from the stool bank donor program. Participants collect their dog or cat’s ‘deposits’, and AnimalBiome’s friendly staff picks up the pet’s poop from a small cooler placed outside the participant’s home. Owners of stool bank donors also receive reimbursement for an annual veterinarian exam fee, regular monitoring of their pet’s gut health, poop collecting supplies such as plastic bags, and direct support from AnimalBiome’s experienced Animal Care Team.

AnimalBiome uses poop from healthy pets in the stool bank program to make safe fecal microbiota transplant (FMT) material and to research the microbiome of companion animals. This research helps veterinarians, the pet health industry, and pet parents solve pet health challenges, such as diarrhea, itchy skin, allergies, bad breath, and other gut microbiome-associated ailments. The success of this cutting-edge work depends on access to healthy poop from pets.

To see if a pet qualifies, owners must first complete a simple pre-screening application, reside in the East Bay Area (between San Leandro and El Cerrito), and have a pet with a clean bill of health. Cats and dogs should be 9 months or older. Dogs medium to large-sized are ideal candidates for the stool bank program.

About AnimalBiome

Founded in 2016, AnimalBiome is an Oakland-based biotech company that uses microbiome technology to assess and restore the gut health of cats and dogs. Imbalances in a pet’s gut microbiome are tied to an increased risk for many health issues, including those related to digestion, skin, and body weight. AnimalBiome’s microbiome tests provide actionable insights that empower pet parents to restore balance to the microbiomes of sick pets. AnimalBiome’s unique supplements restore key groups of beneficial bacteria that can be lost as a result of parasitic infections and antibiotic exposure. Find out more at AnimalBiome.com.

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
