(PRESS RELEASE) Grandma Mae’s Country Naturals, the pet food made by and for independent retailers, has partnered with Clearloop, a leading carbon solutions platform, to offset the carbon footprint of its transportation. This is done through Grandma Mae’s support of the development of the Panola I Solar Farm in Panola County, Mississippi. The 6.6-megawatt (MWdc) Panola I Solar Farm is the first of three solar projects launched by Clearloop, in partnership with the local power company, Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association, and with the support of the local economic development group, the Panola Partnership. Combined, the three projects will prevent over 1 billion pounds of carbon from entering the atmosphere and generate enough renewable, cost-effective energy to power approximately 3,000 homes annually.

Grandma Mae’s support for the Panola I Solar Farm will help prevent about 827,000 pounds of carbon from entering the atmosphere and increase equitable access to clean energy. Grandma Mae’s, and their sister brand, RawTernative, are also working with Clearloop to support new solar projects in North Louisiana.

“We are proud to partner with Clearloop to advance our commitment to the environment and sustainability because they are pioneers in how they are using renewable energy projects to drive down emissions, bringing significant environmental and economic benefits to the area,” said Nathalie Berman, assistant to the president of Grandma Mae’s. “Our investment in the Panola I Solar Farm will offset 100 percent of the carbon footprint of our 2023 transportation, and we are excited to guarantee Clearloop our support in 2024 as well, for both our Grandma Mae’s and RawTernative brands. This is among several efforts we have underway to meet our broader environmental and sustainability goals.”

The construction of the Panola County project will provide an economic stimulus in the region by creating jobs during the construction phase, ongoing employment opportunities, and new economic activity in the region.

“We’re excited Grandma Mae’s has chosen our Panola County solar project for its environmental and sustainability initiatives,” said Laura Zapata, CEO and co-founder of Clearloop. “Grandma Mae’s forward thinking is connecting the dots between brand commitments and real impact in taking action that reclaims their carbon footprint while expanding access to clean energy in American communities where the greatest economic and carbon reduction impact can be achieved.”
