AUGUST

1 Celebrate raw feeding with a month-long RAWGUST campaign on social media! To increase the reach of her RAWGUST posts, Angela Peterson of Northwest Pets in Eagle, ID, asked her brand partners for support. Four said yes, and together contributed $500. The store saw a nearly 70% increase in raw sales during the two-week campaign.

1 August is NATIONAL BLACK BUSINESS MONTH. Shine a spotlight on products you carry from Black-owned brands and/or Black pet business owners in your community. Looking for more ways to support? Follow LaShonda Geffrard’s Black Pet Business Network at instagram.com/blackpetbusinessnetwork.

8 Kick off a celebration of all things feline on INTERNATIONAL CAT DAY, a holiday helmed by the International Cat Care organization. This year’s campaign, “Purrfect Play Every Day,” starts on Aug. 1 with a variety of shareable resources at icatcare.org. Tie in with a promotion on your coolest cat toys. For NATIONAL BLACK CAT APPRECIATION DAY on Aug. 17, pay homage to the pets who Deborah and Mark Vitt of Mutts & Co. refer to as “tiny black panthers.” For this holiday in 2022, they put together a video celebrating the black cats in their pack. And don’t forget NATIONAL TAKE YOUR CAT TO THE VET DAY on Aug. 22. Perhaps a tie-in with your favorite veterinary partner.

10 The Charles M. Schulz Museum recognizes SNOOPY’S BIRTHDAY on this day, in honor of the 1968 comic strip featuring Charlie Brown’s beloved Beagle walking into a surprise party in his honor. You could bake or buy cookies decorated to look like Snoopy’s doghouse, set up a selfie station complete with a Peanuts-themed backdrop, or host a Beagle meetup at your business. Or do all three!

16-18 Share your finds on social media as you walk the show floor at SUPERZOO. Not going? Follow us at facebook.com/petsplusmag and share our posts. Per usual, we will be posting pics and videos as we go from booth to booth. Get your customers excited about all of the cool products you plan to bring in!

SEPTEMBER

1 During Pet Sitter International’s PET-SITTER EDUCATION MONTH, the organization offers discounts on subscriptions, guides and courses. Save and learn, then add the new credentials to your website and social media profiles.

4 Leading up to LABOR DAY, promote heavily your calming products. Still have customers nervous about giving their pets CBD? Turn to p.94 for the results of the National Animal Supplement Council’s study on the safety of CBD. Share the research and perhaps change their minds.

11 Ahead of NATIONAL PET MEMORIAL DAY, invite customers and clients to share a photo of a pet who has passed. Then create a slideshow to share on your website and social media, and in your newsletter. They will appreciate the sentiment.

22 Celebrate the FIRST DAY OF FALL with a little pumpkin spice fun. Stacy Busch offers Pumpkin Spice shampoo and conditioner in her self-wash at Busch Pet Products & Care in Cape Girardeau, MO. Becci Scott whips up goat milk Pumpkin Spice Lattes at Fetching Dog Barkery & Dog Cafe in Scottsdale, AZ. And there are more than a few parody pumpkin spice plush toys, as well as pumpkin treats and accessories, to create a display around. Help your customers and their pets welcome the season.
