A feline marketed as the “world’s worst cat” by a North Carolina animal shelter has been adopted.

The Mitchell County Animal Rescue received national attention for the unconventional way it marketed Perdita, CNN reports. In a Facebook post, the shelter described her as “not for the faint of heart.”

The post claimed that she fooled staff into thinking she was sick, but it turned out she was “just a jerk.”

A few of the things she doesn’t like are “the color pink, kittens (yuk they are so chipper), dogs, children, the Dixie Chicks, Disney movies, Christmas and last but NOT least… HUGS.”

She was “single and ready to be socially awkward with a socially awkward human who understands personal space,” according to the shelter.

The idea was to “highlight [her personality] in a humorous way,” said Amber Lowery, executive director of the Mitchell County Animal Rescue.

And it worked. The shelter received 175 applications for Perdita.

A couple from Monroe County, TN, were chosen to be the cat’s new owners.

The shelter wrote in a follow-up post: “Today is a bittersweet day. Perdita has brought so much joy to the staff here at MCAR. We have loved getting to know her and watching her come out of her slappy shell.”

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
