(PRESS RELEASE) GEORGETOWN, TX – It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s flying dogs. Did you know that dogs can fly? On the weekend of November 4th, 2023, Wag Heaven Pet Supplies and Self-Serve Dog Wash, Nulo Pet Food, Southwestern University, and The Flying Disc Dogs of Texas pooled their efforts to sponsor and support the Disc Dog World Qualifier Weekend Competition in Georgetown, Texas. This is the first ever event held in the fastest growing city of Georgetown, Texas, as well as the campus of Southwestern University.

Competitors gathered from as far as Colorado to show off the athleticism in their dogs to qualify and compete for spots in the United States Disc Dog National (USDDN) World Championship. The US Disc Dog Nationals is an exciting format in which any team can compete regardless of their Club membership status or affiliation within the sport.

“Dogs were being tested through games, such as 4-way play, spaced out, throw ‘n go, and time warp” said Tammy Montgomery of the Flying Disc Dogs of Texas. “Then, they were tested during their performances in toss and fetch, as well as freestyle routines.”

Spectators were entertained by choreographed tricks and routines set to music as handlers tossed multiple discs to their canine companions.

“We learned that some of the competitors train and compete with rescued dogs and multi-breed canines,” added Jeff Manley of Wag Heaven. “Many of them easily defy gravity, jumping well over my height.”

“Their ability to keenly focus on the discs, catching them in mid-air and quickly returning them to their handlers is quite impressive…off the chart,” nodded Nick Doxey of Nulo Pet Food. “So proud to be supporting these four-legged athletes.”

NASC Media Spotlight

At first it was just an idea: Animal supplements needed the same quality control that human-grade supplements receive. But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
