“I’m your local pet pro. Ask me anything.” One of the lessons of social media is how much people like interacting with brands and business owners, especially in those fields where they have a personal interest, such as pet care. As such, take some inspiration from Reddit’s hugely popular question-and-answer format and host your own live Ask Me Anything (AMA) to engage with local customers. Promote it ahead of time through your newsletter and on your social media, pointing potential participants to the when and where, the latter whether that be Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. Save the session and share after for additional engagement in the comments!

But that was enough to start a movement and an organization —the National Animal Supplement Council — that would be dedicated to establishing a comprehensive path forward for the animal supplements industry. In this Media Spotlight interview, NASC’s president, Bill Bookout, talks to PETS+ interviewer Chloe DiVita about the industry today: Where it’s headed, what’s the latest focus and why it’s vital to gain the involvement of independent pet product retailers.
